WPC flooring
Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) is top of the line luxury vinyl flooring. WPC flooring is waterproof while standard vinyl is only water-resistant. A WPC plank usually contains 4 layers, although this can vary according to the manufacturer. From bottom to top, a WPC vinyl flooring plank consists of the following layers:
- Backing layer (pre-attached underpad) - adds extra sound insulation and cushioning
- WPC Core - made of recycled wood pulp and plastic composites, thickest layer
- Printed vinyl layer - flooring color and pattern
- Wear layer - resists stains and excessive wear; makes the floors easy to clean
Benefits
WPC flooring offers excellent benefits. Most importantly, the wood and plastic core keeps the floors from being warped by temperature fluctuations and moisture. Also, the floor is highly resistant to stains and scratches, and in the worst-case scenario, a plank could easily be replaced. The rigid, thick core absorbs sounds and makes the floor warmer and softer. The core also hides imperfections in the subfloor. WPC flooring can be installed over many types of existing floors. Cleaning is simple. Just sweep or vacuum and occasionally use a damp mop.
Judging Quality
When comparing WPC flooring products, look at the thickness. Usually, this flooring is between 4 and 8 millimeters thick. Your floors will become more durable and sturdier as plank thickness increases. Also, the wear layer usually varies from 8 millimeters to 20 millimeters. It’s not always clear if a vinyl flooring product is WPC, or waterproof. If the plank core is made from wood and plastic materials, then it is WPC vinyl flooring.
