Does all tile flooring need grout?
Yes. It's even a misconception that a rectified floor tile doesn't need grout. The grout lines might be thinner here, but they still need it.
What does grout do?
Grout acts as a filler between joints. It keeps dirt and grime from getting between and under tiles.
It also adds rigidity and support and gives a finished appearance.
Be sure to ask the retailer about the best type to use. There are different types of grout for different-sized tiles.
Also, a design tool
When you walk into a tile store, you'll see some creative and unusual shapes. Outline and highlight them with grout.
The color palettes now are so large and varied they can accent, highlight and contrast.
How to clean grout
Nothing ages a floor so much as dirty, dingy, cracked grout. Grout is porous and absorbs stains quickly. It's even worse in bathrooms with steam, humidity, and mold.
The best cure, of course, is prevention. Clean often, and it won't build up and get overwhelming.
A tile shop usually suggests commercial grout cleaners, but be sure whatever you use is alkaline-based. Anything acidic, even vinegar, can harm it.
You might also try:
1. A solution of water and dish soap.
2. Scrubbing with a brush, especially a drill-bit one.
3. A steam cleaner
4. Use a mold-removing product if necessary.
5. Avoid bleach as it can discolor the grout. Waxy, shine-promoting ones will attract dirt.
