Multi-layer composition

The core layer, which is protected by the backing layer, is the thickest of the four layers that make up a plank or tile. Flooring with a wood-plastic composite (WPC) or a stone plastic composite (SPC) core is waterproof. Even standing water does not damage the flooring. The best LVP brands have a 20+ mil transparent wear layer to protect the wood image layer.

EIR technology

The highest quality luxury vinyl flooring uses embossed in register, or EIR, technology to capture the most authentic wood look. Installation

Most plank vinyl floors float above the subfloor. The planks click and lock together, so they don't need to be attached to the subfloor. Underlayment is placed beneath the planks to hide minor subfloor imperfections and enhance the flooring's performance. A moisture barrier can be included if needed. Glue-down products that do not need underlayment are also available.
